Bobby is first and foremost a journalist who cut his teeth with the Sunday Times, Joburg’s Star newspaper and Primedia’s 702 Eyewitness News (where he trained with Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu and Debora Patta), before moving on to television/radio broadcasting and later business.
A natural storyteller, he is best remembered for his exciting and novel presentation-style on SABC2’s previous breakfast TV show AM2Day, where he held his own alongside some of the country’s most seasoned professionals - Alex Jay, Shado Twala, Martin Bailey, Nomfundo Madumo and Jeremy Maggs, amongst others.
He has done several selected television stints, has lectured in journalism, is a voice-over artist and obsessive collector of all types of music.
Bobby has presented a variety of radio shows over the years, for the likes of Talk Radio 702, SAfm, 567 Cape Talk and KFM 94.5, where he was the breakfast desk editor/news anchor.
Bobby was eventually recognized by his peers with an MTN Radio Award in 2013, for his work on sister-station 567 Cape Talk.
In the same year, he was persuaded to join new station on the block, Smile 90.4 FM, where he is currently the chief ambassador.
Breakfast Show presenter
Bobby is the fast-thinking and likeable anchor on Smile 90.4 FM’s most prominent show, Smile Breakfast. The inter-active and multi-faceted show is smart and relevant, with an adult contemporary soundtrack featuring 80s, 90s and current hits.
He also presents a very popular daily insert called the iSmile Report, which focuses on future and current technology with the potential to change our lives. The iSmile Report is also proudly South African in that it often celebrates technology with a local flavor, especially entrepreneurs in the tech and ICT sectors.
Never at a loss for words with a quirky or risqué observation or comment, Bobby is an accomplished MC who has entertained crowds big and small; government as well as corporate over the years. These range from the Nelson Mandela 14-day Commemoration outside City Hall, to the Mayor’s Festive Lights Switch-on Carnival, City Mission’s Annual Ball, Tussen Die Sterre and everything in between.
