2013 – Thembi was awarded with The Mbokodo Award in the category of theatre which honours women who push boundaries of the genre and create new and exciting performance of high standards.
2009 – Living Legend Award by EThekwini Municipality and KwaZulu/Natal Province.
2007- TRUTH IN TRANSLATION won a Fringe First Award in Edinburgh Festival
2007 - Thembi was nominated for best performance in Truth in Translation by Naledi Awards.
2007 – Thembi was nominated by SAFTA for best supporting actress award in Stokvel sitcom
2004 Thembi was commissioned to write a radio drama for BBC Radio 4 to celebrate 10 years of our democracy. The Guardian Newspaper nominated it as pick of the day in 2004. It was chosen as Play of the Week by BBC World Service and broadcast globally to an estimated audience of 45 million.
2004 STOKVEL sitcom was nominated for Switzerlands Rose D’Or and was the runner up at the American Emmy’s for Best International Comedy Award. Thembi was nominated for best supporting actress for Stokvel in 2007 for Safta Awards.
2004 - THE WOODEN CAMERA film won a Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
2002 - Thembi was a finalist in the Tribute Achievers Awards in the category of African Excellence in Entertainment & Arts.
2002 Thembi won the Sony Gold Award for the BBC 4 radio version of A Woman in Waiting.
2000 – A WOMAN IN WAITING won a Fringe First award at the Edingurgh Arts Festival.
2000 – Thembi was nominated for best actress in the Manchester Evining Standard Award in the UK.
1999 Thembi won Best Actress Award at The Carthage Festival in Tunisia for A Woman in Waiting.
