Theatre Experience Charl van Heyningen has been making a name for himself in the South African entertainment industry for the past two decades. After his theatrical debut in the 1992 production of a "A touch of Webber, A taste of Rice" Charl has become a regular on the South African music scene - his first CD being nominated for a Best Male Artist FNB SAMA (South African Music Awards).
Recent endeavors include his critically acclaimed first solo cabaret "All for Love", the enormously successful "Who Stole The Orchestra" in which he collaborates with Karen Meiring and Bondina Osterhof (CUTT GLAS) as well as Rory Rootenberg, and his latest solo stage production "Life is Beautiful", which was nominated for an FNB Vita.
His CD, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL/LA VITA E BELLA was nominated for 2 Geraas Music Awards. Songs from the album are often seen on TV, and are playlisted on various radio stations.
Charl and well-known South-African singer Manuel Escorcio have also joined forces in a brand new show called "Nootvennote", as well as a CD of the same name.
In 2002/2003 came 'Movies Greatest Music - from Casablanca to Moulin Rouge'. Charl not only starred in, but also produced this great musical revue (with the help of sponsorship from Mr. Video), It consisted of some of the greatest movie songs ever, and apart from Charl it also starred Lisa Melman and Russel Savadier/AJ van der Merwe.
Apart from being very busy as a corporate entertainer, recent endeavours include the highly successful HOOKED ON SWING! with the young jazz sensation Bev Rinkwest, supported by the Ralston van der Schyff Trio. This highly acclaimed show is praised by public and critics alike, and is much in demand, with bookings already extending far into 2005 already.
2004 HOOKED ON SWING
"The production is stylish, suave and engenders a finger-clicking mood ideal for an entertaining, yet relaxed, evening out on the town....hums with an honest and sincere pulse....Van Heyningen’s haunting rendition of the melodies in Nature Boy, is superb. Gooseflesh is a given...."
